They Own You

Who's running America? You think it matters who's in the White House or who's elected to Congress or the Senate. They have no power, they gave it all way to powerful lobbyists who've bought them and play them like puppets.

Thanks azgoddess.

George Carlin: Who Owns You?

"Forget the politicians, they're irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea you have freedom of choice - you don't.

You have no choice.
You have owners.
They own you.
They own everything.
They own all the important land.
They own, and control the corporations.
They've long since bought, and payed for the senate, the congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets, and they own all the big media, so they control just about all the information you get.

They got you by the balls. They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying - lobbying, to get what they want.

Well we know what they want. They want more for themselves, and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don't want - they don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking.

They don't want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that - that doesn't help them. That's against their interests. That's right.

They don't want people that are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table, and think about how badly they're getting screwed by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago. They don't want that.

You know what they want? Obedient workers - Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines, and do that paper work. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime, and vanishing pension that disappear the minute you go to collect it, and now they're coming for your social security money.

They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They'll get it - they'll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this place.

It's a big club, and you aint in it. You, and I are not in The Big Club." - George Carlin

More often than not, Carlin speaks the truth. He is dead on with this one.

I would like to do away with lobbyists, even the ones who represent causes that I like. It's a corrupt system of getting things done, government via bribery.

Depressing as hell, but mostly true.

I think he's right, this George Carlin. But I'm not sure that the answer is bleak humor (though I love it!) and despair. I'm (perhaps) naive enough to believe that this reign of the wealthy and the powerful will not outlast the human race. But I could be wrong.

George Carlin says it all. Maybe he should be running for president.

But as long as we have a choice of using the red sippy cup or the blue sippy cup to drink our daily gruel, we are free. Nevermind that the choices we are given -- such as the choice to post silly blogs like this -- are meaningless and no threat to the power of our rulers. We have choices, so we believe we are free -- even though we are numbered, sorted, worked like slaves, and remember freedom only dimly from lazy summer afternoons of childhood when we had nowhere to go and no reason to do anything.
