Friday "Cats & Dogs" Blogging

Yesterday, it finally rained. The first measurable rain in four months.

It was a heavy rain that lasted for two hours. Hey, after a long dry stretch, it was wonderful, even if it was just a couple of hours.

We have been in a major drought. The grass is brown, trees are dying, lake levels are at historic low levels. While parts of Texas are being washed away, Alabama is becoming a desert.

I love rain in the summertime. I love to run in the rain, or do just about anything else, like hiking, washing the car, or just sitting on the porch during a summer storm.

I want more. Not like I have any control over it, like our Governor.

Yesterday was June 28. two days before the start of Alabama Governor Bob Riley's Precipitation Proclaimation:

"I, Bob Riley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby encourage citizens of Alabama to pray daily for rain."

He further proclaimed June 30 - July 7 as Days of Prayer for Rain and he encouraged Alabamians to pray both at home and in churches for "sufficient" moisture.

Meanwhile, the previous Governor, Don Siegelman, was sentenced to seven years in prison. These are the people we elect to represent us.

We are fucked.

I feel your pain next door. The little smatterings of rain have been wonderful.

But my neighbors must not be praying right because it's still not enough moisture to bring us back up to normal levels.

Studies have shown that prayer for people in hospitals (such as prayer lists passed out at churches) actually made them worse off when compared to control patients for whom prayers were not requested.

My MIL prayed excessively for grandsons and got 4 granddaughters - not a single grandson.

Those people better stop praying soon, or you all are in for one hell of a drought!

I read that Global Warming meant that the South was to become more like the dessert area of Mexico. Can it be happening this fast?

We are in a drought too and hoping for a good tropical storm or two to help us out.

We finally got rain here last week. Rain drops make me want to curl up on the bed and sleep to their music.

I don't know if anyone down here prayed for rain, but I better not catch them praying for hurricanes.

I've been gone all week, and it rained all week in Indiana. Didn't have to worry about hiring someone to water the bonsai.

Btw, I prayed to Sponge Bob.

Friends,

I have been extremely busy between, taking a trip this weekend, running clubs activities, and filling in for people at work.

I'll try and have a Friday post up, but no promises. I hope to be back to regular blogging next week.
